Erattukalan Temple located in Karad PO, Wandoor, Malappuram, Kerala-679 339.
The Karad Erattukalan Paradevatha Kshethram situates in Karad, Wandoor village of Wandoor Panchayat in Nilambur Taluk, Malappuram District. This prehistoric temple is a ‘Vettekkaran Kshethram’ of the Deity Shiva in its Kiratabhava. The temple is conveniently located for devotees to reach from Nilambur and Wandoor towns with road and rail connectivity.
Karad and its adjacent areas were blessed with material affluence and its inhabitants lived in peace and prosperity from time immemorial with Karad Erattukalan Paradevatha waiting in tandem for any distress call of the devotees. Demonic elements stood in the way of those blissful days resulting in gradual enervation of the temple and the prosperous days began slowly emaciated.
The temple and its property, which was under the administration of the Manjeri Kovilakam, has been, under various pretexts, relinquished to the public at large. Coupled with the apathy of the devotees in the affairs of the temple, the property changed hands and lost forever and eventually the temple petered out.
Years vamoosed in utter neglect, but, temples cannot be subdued for ever. Resurrection is inevitable. The vanguard who undertook revival of hundreds of ruined temples, Shri. N N Rajeevji Agasthyamala esquire magnanimously accepted the imploration of the native devotees to visit the temple. Natives of Karad and adjacent areas gathered on the appointed day to heed their sagely advice.
